Level 2 Intermediate Course

Boost your knowledge and achieve professional Marine Electrical Technician Licence (MET 2)

  • Pre-course requirements: Level 1
  • Recommended study time: 2 days
  • Certification (personal use): Course completion
  • Certification (professional use): MET 2 Certificate

When we developed the level 2 curriculum the goal was to ensure learners could apply the basics from the level 1 course to the more complex areas of the marine electrical system.

Each module is packed with practical tips and step-by-step guides, ensuring that you can apply what you've learned immediately, whether you're assessing wiring onboard or troubleshooting a fault.

The level 2 course is ideal for boat owners, skippers and crew but also, on completion of the optional final MET written exam learners can achieve their entry level Marine Electrical Technician Level 2 card. This is an industry recognised licence that enables you to find work in the marine electrical sector.

Below are just a few examples of the subjects covered.

Learn about solar power

Learn about solar installations, solar controllers, and how this technology can be safely and efficiently interfaced with an existing electrical system. There's a lot to learn in this area and mistakes can be costly and potentially dangerous. Learn about this and more with the level 2 course.

Yacht Battery Charging lessons

Battery Charging

One of the most misunderstood areas of the marine electrical system, battery charging, is covered in great detail. Literally learn everything there is to know on this topic

Galvanic Corrosion Lesson

Galvanic Corrosion

Learn how the small currents that exist between metals can destroy parts of a yacht, in some cases causing total loss! Galvanic corrosion can be prevented but the systems in place need inspection and maintenance.

Multiple alternators on yachts

Dual Alternators

Many yachts have dual alternators on one engine, you can learn how to get the most of this arrangement and learn how to avoid the most common mistakes made with this system.

Isolation Transformers

Isolation Transformers

Corrosion can be caused by the shore-power connection and one way to eliminate this is with the isolation transformer. However, this introduces a few other problems that must be addressed, and of course it must be inspected and tested periodically to ensure those on board are not at risk of electrocution.
